LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) – Laurel Arts League hosted a winners’ celebration Sunday for the Community Wide Art Contest.
The arts league has hosted similar contests in years past, but this was the first year combining all ages and abilities.
Winners were selected from every school in Laurel and Jones County.
This year’s theme was ‘I woke up and I was one inch tall.’
Laura Jones, chairperson of the competition, said this theme gave students a better understanding of perspective in art.
“We really want this community to feel how rich in arts we are because Laurel is,” Jones said. “I mean, we’re here at the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art, a completely free, state-of-the-art museum, and we have all of these children that are interested in art and are very talented in art here to explore and learn more about some of the finest art in the world.”
All of the winners from this art contest will compete in the Day in the Park Art Contest as well. Day in the Park is the Laurel Art League’s biggest event of the year on May 2.
