Chappell Roan is getting the comics treatment, with a new graphic novel biography coming from Media Lab Books. Chappell Roan: Midwest Princess: The Illustrated Story of a Musical Femininomenon, adapted by author Rachel Randall and illustrated by artist Bridie Cox (also known as Bridie Alpaca), is set to arrive in November 2026, with preorders already available for $17.99 at Barnes & Noble, Amazon, and other major book retailers.
Cox/Alpaca, who goes by @alpacalypse_art on Instagram, confirmed the project in an announcement post on the social media platform on June 23, 2026, saying, “When I was approached about illustrating this comic, it was the biggest no brainer ever! This is made with nothing but love and respect to Chappell and her fans, I was able to add plenty of fun references in there for die hard fans.”
The graphic novel charts Roan’s full arc (so far): her early years navigating queerness in a small Missouri town, her tumultuous run with her first label — which shelved her debut album before dropping her entirely — and her meteoric rise to becoming one of pop music’s defining voices. After years of struggle, Roan eventually signed to Island Records in 2023 and released her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, to widespread acclaim. The album’s commercial breakthrough was later accelerated by her supporting slot on Olivia Rodrigo‘s Guts World Tour and festival appearances at Coachella and Governors Ball, ultimately catapulting her to global recognition, including a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 67th annual ceremony in 2025.
Since then, Roan has remained one of pop’s most compelling figures and one of its most outspoken. In February 2026, she severed ties with talent agency Wasserman following revelations tied to the Epstein files, writing publicly that she “refuses to passively stand by.” She has also made her musical values clear in an interview: when asked about a follow-up album, she told Vogue that “the second project doesn’t exist yet,” adding that it took her five years to write the first one and the next will likely take just as long. In the meantime, she took the stage at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony to honor one of her heroes, Cyndi Lauper.
The illustrator says the book was crafted with longtime fans in mind, packed with references and moments chosen to capture Roan’s spirit. The story centers specifically on her experience as a queer woman in the music industry: the hurdles, the resilience, and the princess crown she’s since claimed for herself.
Read the official description of the graphic novel about Roan’s life (well, so far) below:
She’s the neon dream you can’t ignore—the self-proclaimed “Midwest Princess” who transformed heartbreak into glitter-drenched anthems! Now, for the first time, Chappell Roan’s story comes to life in a breathtaking, biographical graphic novel, beautifully illustrated by viral sensation Bridie Alpaca (@alpacalypse_art), whose bold, throwback style is perfect for telling such a compelling, triumphant story.
From small-town beginnings to the highs and lows of the music industry, this is a tale of resilience, reinvention, and radical self-expression, revealing everything that drove Chappell Roan to become an instantly iconic, Grammy Award-winning superstar—a tale where every page pulses with color, chaos, and charisma, just like her music.
The project also carries a community commitment behind it. Moved by Roan’s own words — “The queer community is my main fanbase, so my responsibility is to pay it forward” — the illustrator donated AUD $500 from their advance to two Australian trans organizations, Transcend Australia and Transgender Victoria, both nominated by the Midwest Princess Project during Roan’s recent Laneway Festival visit. Roan herself launched the Midwest Princess Project in October 2025, a nonprofit aimed at uplifting trans youth and protecting LGBTQ+ communities.
Chappell Roan: Midwest Princess: The Illustrated Story of a Musical Femininomenon arrives on November 3, 2026.
