Marvel Comics will celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show with The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe, a special one-shot featuring stories by Chip Zdarsky & Pete Woods, Kyle Starks & Mike Henderson, Ashley Allen & Paco Medina, Mackenzie Cadenhead & David Baldeon, and more, including Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Adam F. Goldberg, E.J. Su, and Áthila Fabbio.

The four announced stories are:
- Chip Zdarsky and Pete Woods’s comic, where Rowlf the Dog gets kidnapped by Mojo to help launch his new streaming service, forcing Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Wolverine, Emma Frost and more to team up to save him.
Kyle Starks and Mike Henderson’s science bro spectacular, which will see Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker collaborate with Bruce Banner and Hank Pym on an experiment involving gamma rays and Pym particles.
Ashley Allen and Paco Medina’s mystic segment, where the Swedish Chef will come to the aid of Doctor Strange and Clea after she’s struck down by a magical virus.
MacKenzie Cadenhead and David Baldeon’s Pigs in Space strip, where the trio will cross paths with Rocket Raccoon and Groot.
Zdarsky comments, “With the great power of two iconic properties comes great responsibility. I promise to not let down Kermit, Fozzie and Animal the way Spider-Man let down his Uncle Ben.” He adds, “It’s impossible to overstate how excited I was to write for Miss Piggy, whom I consider to be one of the greatest icons of the last hundred years, a character who speaks to every generation. I also got to write Deadpool. And Pete Woods is turning in the most stunning, detailed and joyous pages. Seeing his take on these characters interacting is a real delight.”
Leigh Slaughter, Vice President of The Muppets Studio, adds, “It has been exciting for The Muppets Studio to collaborate with Marvel Comics in a new and unique way to bring the personality, humor and mayhem of the Muppets into the Marvel Universe and vice versa. To do this during the 50th anniversary year of The Muppet Show makes this project even more meaningful.” The book will mark Marvel’s first Muppets comic since the Muppet Babies tie-in that ran from 1985 to 1989, and the third overall, following that, and the graphic novelization of the 1984 film The Muppets Take Manhattan.
Muppets Take the Marvel Universe will be released on September 23 (the month the show premiered), with covers by Nick Bradshaw, Humberto Ramos, Ron Lim, and Matteo Lolli, the last of whom’s marks the 30th anniversary of the movie Muppet Treasure Island.
