Heirloom Fire: Czech Glasswork Presentation & Jewelry Design Class
Sunday, May 3, 2-5 p.m.
Get hands-on experience creating unique jewelry designs with Czech glass. Join Minnesota jewelry artist Andrea Turini for her “Heirloom Fire: Czech Glasswork” presentation. Turini will bring audiences inside the living traditions of Czech glasswork from family workshops to state-run factories to a thriving cottage industry. After the free presentation, register to stay for a hands-on jewelry design session to make either earrings and a bracelet, or earrings and a necklace using authentic Czech glass beads from Andrea’s curated collection.
Class participation is limited to 12 people ages 12 and older. Registration is $40 to create earrings and a bracelet or $45 for earrings and a necklace. Andrea Turini is the recipient of an individual artist and culture bearer grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council.
Watercolor Batik
Saturday, May 9, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Join Lanesboro Arts Gallery Artist Kim Gordon for a day-long class on watercolor batik. Gordon takes this ancient Javanese art form and gives it an approachable twist. In the morning, Gordon will teach about the origins, basic techniques, and experimental approaches behind her batiks. After a midday lunch break, each participant will create a beautiful painting inspired by irises to take home.
Class participation is limited to 10 people, and participants must be ages 16 and older. Registration is offered at a sliding scale of $35-$55 per person.
In Search of Spontaneity Writing Workshop
Wednesday, May 13, 6-8 p.m.
Join Lanesboro Arts and BIPOC Artist Residency Artist-in-Residence Lara Mimosa Montes for a free, all-stages writing workshop. In this generative and process-focused writing workshop, participants will read poems and follow writing activities that court naïveté and spontaneity in an attempt to become a little — or a lot — less inhibited in creative pursuits. Participants can expect to write in between and across genres, moving between poetry and prose, while embracing accident and experiment over mastery and perfection.
Class participation is limited to 15 people, and participants must be ages 18 or older. Registration is free. This workshop is offered through the Lanesboro Arts BIPOC Artist Residency Program, which offers personally tailored residencies to Black, Indigenous, Minnesotan artists of Color.
