Pulitzer Prize finalist Ann Patchett (The Dutch House, Tom Lake) returns with yet another poignant tale. The story kicks off with Daphne Fuller, 53, visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art with her husband, Jonathan, when she notices an older, white-haired man following them. The man is Eddie Triplett, Daphne’s stepfather. He was married to her mother for a year when Daphne was nine years old, but his impact on her was profound. The two haven’t seen each other since a fateful event that changed their lives completely 40 years ago. As they reunite, the narrative explores trauma, loss, and the bravery required to look back at moments that shape a life.
Expected release: June
5. The Tale of Kaho by Haruki Murakami
The novel centres on Kaho, a 26-year-old author of children’s picture books. The story begins with a bizarre encounter on a blind date. A man looks at Kaho and bluntly tells her, “I’ve dated all kinds of women in my life, but I have to say I’ve never seen one as ugly as you.” This insult serves as a doorway into a series of strange, dreamlike experiences. The book explores themes of identity and perception. While full plot details remain under wraps, expect a story that moves between Tokyo’s everyday rhythms and surreal, otherworldly spaces. The book is an expanded and revised version of a four-part series originally published in the Japanese literary magazine Shincho between 2024 and early 2026.
Expected release: July (in Japan)
