We learned in September 2024 that another light novel series is making the leap to anime with Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table. The light novels come from writer Yushi Ukai with illustration work by Nekometaru. The series has nine volumes out as of the end of September 2024, and a manga series is underway as well.
The show has Takehiro Ueno directing it from the series composition by Rintaro Ikeda. Eri Osada is handling the character designs with Studio DEEN on the animation production.
With a January 7th, 2026, premiere date, Netflix has brought out a new clip from the series. At the brink of defeat against Kyara, Yuki steels her resolve to achieve her goals thanks to a vision of her mentor Hakushi.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Haruka Satō as Kokutō
- Inori Minase as Kinko
- Mutsumi Tamura as Beniya
- Rena Motomura as Aoi
- Rina Kawaguchi as Momono
- Chiyuki Miura as Yūki
- Haruka Oribe as Azuma
- Rio Tsuchiya as Mishiro
- Yume Miyamoto as Airi
- Natsuko Abe as Moegi
- Shizuka Itō as Hakushi

Plot Concept: Yuki wakes up to find herself in an unfamiliar manor, wearing a maid uniform and lying on a luxurious bed. Soon, she discovers five more girls, all dressed the same as her. This is the Ghost House, and the only way they can survive is to make it through the traps that lie in wait-deadly games full of blowguns, buzz saws, locked rooms, and weapons. It’s a hopeless, terrifying situation for everyone there…well, everyone except Yuki. After all, this is her career at seventeen. Do you think that’s odd? She would agree. But that’s how some people are-they earn their living playing death games.
