Xbox has unveiled a refreshed look for its iconic logo, which features a return to the brand’s classic green coloring.

The logo was revealed via social media last night, following the release of a major new mission statement penned by Microsoft’s gaming boss Asha Sharma and veteran Xbox exec Matt Booty.

Like that mission statement, the post unveiling the new logo is titled simply: “We Are Xbox.” And it’s immediately clear from the new design what the fresh branding is meant to achieve — it’s a return of the classic Xbox neon green, albeit with a more modern glossy finish.

Sharma herself immediately responded to the post with a series of green heart emojis, while numerous other brands also commented on the return of Xbox’s green coloring.

“We are so back 💚,” wrote the official account for Mountain Dew. “Look at us, just two green friends,” Xbox replied. “💚Green💚,” wrote gaming brand Razer. “Green goes good with… everything,” Xbox replied.

Previously, the Xbox logo had been flattened to a stark white, following more colorful looks through the brand’s earlier eras. On social media, the change has been widely welcomed — with many fans celebrating the return of a hue long associated with Xbox as a platform.

Xbox’s new mission statement began by acknowledging that the company had “work to do” as “players were frustrated” by a lack of new Xbox features, higher prices for Xbox services, and a PC presence that “isn’t strong enough.”

To combat these issues and strengthen Xbox as a brand, the company will work to stabilize its current console generation by working to “fix the fundamentals for players and partners,” Sharma and Booty wrote, making Xbox “the best place for developers and creators to build and grow,” while pushing forward on plans for the company’s next-gen console, codenamed Project Helix.

One major change that’s already been announced, of course, has been the decision to cut the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass on PC, while removing new Call of Duty games from the subscription service at launch. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has gone from $29.99 per month to $22.99 per month, while PC Game Pass has been reduced from $16.49 per month to $13.99 per month. The move has been broadly welcomed by fans, who will see their monthly fee reduced from their next bill onwards.

Last night brought word of another change, too — the end of “Microsoft Gaming” as the umbrella name for the Xbox division.

“Our best work happens when the full stack moves together,” Sharma and Booty’s mission statement reads. “Microsoft Gaming describes our structure but it does not describe our ambition. So, we are going back to where we started and changing our team’s name. We are Xbox.

“Over the last five years, Xbox and the industry have been through an unimaginable amount of change, and this team has continued to deliver through it for our community. Thank you for staying focused on what matters. 62 days in, we’re proud of how we’ve honored our commitments of great games, return of Xbox, and future of play,” the statement concluded, counting the days since Sharma’s reign began. “We’re here to do the most creative and courageous work of our lives, and that’s what we’ll do together.”
