    TULSA, Okla. –

The Tulsa Global District is adding a new layer of art and culture to East Tulsa with a project designed to turn everyday infrastructure into a creative showcase for the community.

The organization recently launched its Beatbox Project, an initiative that transforms utility control boxes across the district into colorful public art displays. The project features artwork inspired by the district’s diverse community and includes music from local artists connected to each piece.

Organizers say the goal is to encourage people to explore the area, support local businesses and experience the district’s culture through art and music.

    How the Beatbox Project works

Local artists are invited to submit designs that reflect the culture and identity of the community. Selected designs are printed on vinyl wraps and installed on utility boxes throughout the district.

Each finished box also features a QR code that visitors can scan to hear music from local musicians whose work is tied to the artwork.

Alejandro Garcia with the Tulsa Global District said the project is meant to celebrate the area’s cultural diversity.

“What we want to do is like create these more projects of beautification, so we can have these projects so they can reflect the diversity of the area, we know that East Tulsa is one of the most multicultural parts of the city so we want the area to reflect that,” Garcia said.

    Community interest grows

So far, organizers say the project has received strong interest from the community.

Six control boxes are part of the current installation, and Garcia said the organization received more than 80 song submissions tied to the artwork featured in the project.

    How to get involved

Submissions for this round of the Beatbox Project are now closed, but organizers say they are always looking for artists and creatives interested in future projects across the district.

Organizers say the artwork will likely be installed in mid-to-late April.
