Thirty years ago this summer, the first book in George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire series, A Game of Thrones, was released. While fans aren’t getting Winds of Winter to celebrate its thirtieth, they’re getting something pretty neat to mark the occasion that’s far from a consolation prize: a special rerelease.
Folio Society (which already makes pretty decadent editions of the series) is publishing 1,000 limited-edition single-volume editions of A Game of Thrones, signed by Martin himself. According to People, the 872-page single-volume rerelease will feature artwork by Jonathan Burton as well as a clamshell box, rolled map, and a “dragon leather” binding. Feast your eyes on this beaut.

“We have been incredibly fortunate to work with the finest British craftspeople on this special 30th anniversary edition version, from the leather makers who created our incredible dragonskin leather, to the James Cropper paper mill who made our bespoke endpapers, to the Ludlow Bookbinders who are binding each volume with care,” Folio Society editor James Rose said in a press release, noting that the book looks like it came straigth out of the Citadel library.
Obviously, with all these fixings, it should go without saying that the 30th edition of Game of Thrones will come at a pretty penny. If you’re a baller on a budget, we regret to inform you that Folio Society’s rerelease comes with a $2,200 price tag. That’s a lot of coin! Like, rent money. But if you’re not scared away from the decimal places, you can cop yourself a copy of the 30th anniversary of Game of Thrones from Folio Society on July 15.
For everyone else who doesn’t live in that price margin, you can clutch your weathered edition of Game of Thrones close to your chest and look forward to all the Game of Thrones projects Warner Bros. has yearly plans for. The most immediate project is House of the Dragon‘s third season, which drops on HBO Max on June 21. Waiting just behind it is season two of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is aiming for a 2027 release. And further down the road is Andor and House of Cards writer Beau Willimon’s proposed Aegon the Conqueror film. However, that one is still in rumor territory, so it’ll be a bit before those plans go from machinations to for-real projects to look forward to. Plus… there might always be Winds of Winter at some point?
