With a number of Ghost in the Shell projects over the years, we can’t exactly say that the property has been dormant for quite some time. But we can get excited when some new people get involved in the world, and that was revealed in May 2024 with the tentatively titled The Ghost in the Shell project that will arrive in 2026. The new project has Science SARU involved with it, while production committee partners also include Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, and Production I.G. as well.
Set previously for a July 7th, 2026, premiere, Prime Video is streaming the series worldwide outside of Russia and China, with Japan having an early exclusive period. Original Concept: Deep into the twenty-first century, the line between man and machine has been blurred as humans rely on the enhancement of mechanical implants and robots are upgraded with human tissue. In this rapidly converging landscape, cyborg superagent Major Motoko Kusanagi is charged to track down the craftiest and most dangerous terrorists and cybercriminals, including “ghost hackers” who are capable of exploiting the human/machine interface and reprogramming humans to become puppets to carry out the hackers’ criminal ends.
