Nearly five years after its release, The Book of Boba Fett is getting a seven-issue comic book adaptation from Marvel, written by Rodney Barnes, and illustrated by Will Sliney. The comic will retell the story of the 2021-22 Disney+ series, which followed the fearsome bounty hunter after the events of season two of The Mandalorian, as he and Fennec Shand established a new order on Tatooine, while revealing what happened between his appearance on the show and his apparent demise in Return of the Jedi.

Barnes shares, “I’ve loved Boba Fett since early childhood! Adapting this series has been a complete joy, and I can’t wait for Star Wars fans to read it!” The writer previously scripted Marvel’s comics of the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka season one, while Sliney’s other Star Wars titles include 2019’s The Rise of Kylo Ren, and the upcoming Fall of Kylo Ren.
The Book of Boba Fett proved to be more divisive than other Disney+ Star Wars series when released, especially after it diverted from its title character for two whole episodes to set up The Mandalorian season three. This comic means Marvel is now at least free to adapt the rest of the main show, and its newly released film continuation The Mandalorian and Grogu.
Issue #1 will be released on September 9, with a main cover by Alex Maleev, and variants by E.M. Gist, Jerry Ordway, Pete Woods, and Rickie Yagawa, which you can check out below. In the meantime, The Mandalorian and Grogu is playing now at a theater near you, and Papercutz’s tie-in one-shot Danger in the Dark will be released on July 22. Sliney and Charles Soule‘s Fall of Kylo Ren will also kick off on August 12.
