Mad Cave Studios has announced Havana Split, a historical crime graphic novel by writer Frédéric Brrémaud (Love), and artist Vic Macioci (Gravity Level), featuring colors by Maggie, lettering by Cromatik Ltd, and a translation by Montana Kane. Set during the Cuban Revolution, the book, due out this August, follows a woman trying to rescue her father from the mob, who have one, slightly complicated request in exchange for his safety.

The official synopsis reads, “Cuba, 1958. Lily is reunited with her father, the owner of a seedy detective agency in Havana. Well, reunited… Rather, she catches a glimpse of him. Her father, a gambling addict, has been kidnapped along with his secretary by Alfonso, a mafioso and sports betting boss.
The deal is simple: her father in exchange for a starlet, a failed film actress, but above all, the mistress of Alfonso’s great rival. Simple, easy, fácil, especially since Lily can count on the help of John, an ex-CIA agent, and José, a handyman in his spare time and a full time coward. And all this in the middle of the revolución!”

In further Mad Cave news, Nakama Press, the publisher’s imprint for East Asian titles, revealed Diablomachia, a dark fantasy series by Italian manga creator Da Hosoi (real name Daniele Magrì). The books follows Neve, a boy capable of summoning kindly demons to protect humans. “[But] rival demons are closing in, determined to shatter Neve’s sanctuary from within,” and when “Neve awakens strange new powers, he must confront enemies on all sides — and a truth that will upend everything he thought he knew about his mission, his demons, and himself.”
Hosoi is an artist who trained under Fist of the North Star co-creator Tetsuo Hara, City Hunter creator Tsukasa Hojo, and editor Nobuhiko Horie. He says, “Diablomachia is a very important story to me,” explaining, “Through [Neve’s] adventures, I was able to express what truly mattered to me: the fear of relying on others, of placing one’s trust in someone or something, and the courage required to overcome one’s own fragilities. I hope readers can feel at ease in Neve’s world and become passionate about his journey of growth, approaching it lightly and perhaps even having fun along with him and his demon friends!”
The first volumes of Diablomachia and Havana Split will both be released on August 18. The former will be retail in paperback at 184 pages for $10.99, while Havana Split will weigh in at 176 pages, and be available in paperback and hardback.
