In August, the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass paid DLC will introduce the first of two new towns and more Pokémon to populate them, including the missing starters Popplio and Mudkip. They’ll join more than 300 Pokémon from across generations who already live in the game, and we can’t wait to see who’s on the roster—but we have some hopes and dreams.
There are over 1 thousand Pokémon in the global Pokédex to date, meaning there are tons who could still arrive in Pokopia. The Beat staff has put together a list of ‘mon we want to see next, whether in the upcoming DLC, in future seasonal events, or other updates.
Here are the Pokémon we want to see most in Pokopia.
Several starter Pokémon are unavailable in Pokémon Pokopia, and their absence looms large. We would love to see these ‘mon make their way to the game. Now that Popplio, Mudkip, and their evolutions are on the way, we’re particularly eager to see the rest of these partner ‘mon join their friends.
Chikorita, Bayleef & Meganium (Generation 2)
Chikorita, Bayleef, and Meganium would fit in perfectly with the other dinosaurs in Rocky Ridges! They’d also fit in well in Withered Wasteland or Palette Town, and could have the Grow specialty or a new one we haven’t seen.
Totodile, Croconaw & Feraligatr (Generation 2)
Totodile, Croconaw, and Feraligatr would make great additions to the upcoming Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass DLC. These water types could fit in well in Bubbly Basin!
Treecko, Grovyle & Sceptile (Generation 3)
Treecko, Grovyle, and Sceptile would be great additions to the Chop and Bulldoze specialty, and would fit in well with grass or dinosaur types in Pokopia.
Turtwig, Grotle & Torterra (Generation 4)
Given the presence of ancient fossils and weird history in the world of Pokopia, a turtle-like species only makes sense to the lore. We would love to see Turtwig, Grotle, and Torterra join the team, potentially with the Bulldoze specialty.
Chimchar, Monferno & Infernape (Generation 4)
There may not be a proper jungle biome in Pokopia, but thousands of players have created their own using the game’s various trees, shrubs, flowers, and grasses. Chimchar, Monferno, and Infernape would be right at home in these spaces.
Oshawott, Dewatt & Samurott (Generation 5)
If Oshawatt, Dewatt, and Samurott don’t join Pokopia with the Popplio and Mudkip lines, we’re rioting.
Tepig, Pignite & Emboar (Generation 5)
There are curreétly no pig Pokémon in Pokopia, which is a major oversight from the developers. Tepig, Pignite, and Emboar would love the heat of Rocky Ridges and could use their bulk to Gather, Build, Chop, Crush, or Bulldoze.
Chespin, Quilladin & Chesnaught (Generation 6)
Chespin, Quilladin, and Chesnaught deserve to join the Froakie line and could have the rare Explode specialty or a new one that enhances gameplay.
Fennekin, Braixen & Delphox (Generation 6)
Fox-like Fennekin, Braixen, and Delphox also deserve to join the Froakie line and could take up the Burn or Gather specialties.
Litten, Torracat & Incineroar (Generation 7)
It feels wrong that Litten, Torracat, and Incineroar are the only Alolan starter line not to have a place in Pokopia. We’re also always in support of more cats!
Grookey, Thwackey & Rillaboom (Generation 8)
Like their other monkey-ish counterparts, Grookey, Thwackey, and Rillaboom would be right at home in the jungle-like habitats Pokopia players are building all the time… or perhaps the developers will introduce a jungle biome in the upcoming DLC?
Sobble, Drizzile & Inteleon (Generation 8)
Yet another water-type Pokémon series that would be right at home in Bubbly Basin: Sobble, Drizzile, and Inteleon, who could boast the Water or Hype specialties.
Fuecoco, Crocalor & Skeledirge (Generation 9)
Fuecoco, Crocalor, and Skeledirge seem like Pokémon who like to party, so it would make since to introduce them to Pokopia with the Burn and/or Hype specialties.
Quaxly, Quaxwell & Quaquaval (Generation 9)
Quaxly, Quaxwell, and Quaquaval were born to Hype it up, and the fact that they are not currently doing so in Pokopia is a genuine bummer.
Beyond the missing starters, there are so many Pokémon we want to hang out with in Pokopia. Here’s a non-exhaustive list compiled by The Beat staff.
Caterpie, Metapod & Butterfree (Generation 1)
There aren’t many bug-type Pokémon in Pokopia currently, and there should be more! It would be fun to see Caterpie, Metapod, and Butterfree join the game, perhaps with a new, buggy specialty.
Ponyta & Rapidash (Generation 1)
How is it that there is not a single horse Pokémon in Pokopia? We would love to see Ponyta and Rapidash join the game, in either their original fire-type form or in their Galarian psychic-type form. Who doesn’t love a unicorn?
Seel & Dewgong (Generation 1)
There is a major lack of ice-type Pokémon in Pokopia, and the upcoming Expansion Pass DLC seems like the perfect opportunity for the developers to address that gap. Introducing Seel and Dewgong is a step in the right direction.
Sentret & Furret (Generation 2)
Sentret and Furret are adorable and—by our measure—very underrated Pokémon. We would love to see them get the attention they deserve in Pokopia!
Shuckle (Generation 2)
Shuckle is an icon who needs no introduction.
Teddiursa, Ursaring & Ursaluna (Generation 2)
Teddiursa, Ursaring, and Ursaluna bridge the gap between cute and scary Pokémon, and they would fit so well in the forested biomes of Pokopia. We’d love to see them join the game perhaps in a fall or Halloween event, given their close ties to the moon.
Corsola (Generation 2)
Pokopia players have built some gorgeous coral reefs and it’s odd not to see Corsola swimming amongst the plants. This cutie seems like a natural addition to the Bubbly Basin area, so we hope to see them in the game come August.
Houndoor & Houndoom (Generation 2)
There are few dark-type Pokémon in Pokopia currently, and Houndoor and Houndoom are some of the best dark types out there.
Spheal, Sealeo & Walrein (Generation 3)
Spheal, Sealeo, and Walrein are some of the cutest ice-type Pokémon around and would make the best neighbors to Seel and Dewgong. We hope to see them join Pokopia in the Expansion Pass DLC or, perhaps, a winter event.
Shinx, Luxio & Luxray (Generation 4)
Shinx, Luxio, and Luxray have a celestial look that would make them perfect fits for the Sparkling Skylands!
Giratina (Generation 4)
Nothing would make us happier than making Giratina happy.
Cottonee & Whimsicott (Generation 5)
Cottonee and Whimsicott don’t get as much love as they deserve, and they would make great additions to Pokopia. They could have a new specialty that allows them to find special seeds that other Pokémon can’t find, or something similar, just to mix up the gardening task and add even more variety to the game’s decor.
Vanillite, Vanillish & Vanilluxe (Generation 5)
Vanillite, Vanillish, and Vanilluxe are ice-type Pokémon whose “looks like food” vibe would make many of the Pokémon in Pokopia very happy, and we would love to see the ice cream trucks and stalls that players create to house them!
Petilil & Lilligant (Generation 5)
Petilil and Lilligant are such divas, and they would be perfect Pokopia neighbors for Bellossom!
Meloetta (Generation 5)
DJ Rotom may be able to play CDs, but Pokopia is definitely lacking in live music. Meloetta could introduce a new specialty, Sing, which could inspire Pokémon with the Hype specialty and/or make unique effects happen in certain areas or at certain times.
Honedge, Doublade & Aegislash (Generation 6)
The castle in Rocky Ridges makes an ideal home for the Charcadet line, but it’s awfully big for just three Pokémon. Let’s introduce Honedge, Doublade, and Aegislash for additional flavor.
Inkay & Malomar (Generation 6)
Inkay’s evolution into Malamar is one of the coolest in any Pokémon game, and their absence is sorely felt in Pokopia. This duo would make excellent additions to Bubbly Basin!
Phantump & Trevenant (Generation 6)
We hope to see certain ghost- and dark-type Pokémon join Pokopia around Halloween through seasonal events, and two of our top choices are Phantump and Trevenant, whose creepy presence is perfect for the forested areas of the game.
Pumpkaboo & Gourgeist (Generation 6)
Like Phantump and Trevenant, Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist are at the top of our list for Pokémon who can and should join Pokopia this Halloween. Their introduction could bring pumpkin-themed items or even actual pumpkin seeds, which would open up a whole new world of decorating and cooking.
Stufful & Bewear (Generation 7)
Stufful and Bewear are two of the most iconic Pokémon from the Alolan region, and they would fit in perfectly in Pokopia. If Bleak Beach is full, no problem! Move them into Palette Town or Withered Wasteland!
Solgaleo (Generation 7)
Solgaleo has such a cool design and would be the perfect addition to Bleak Beach, where they can rule over the cliffs. For extra fun, they could introduce a new, weather-related specialty.
Lunala (Generation 7)
Spotting Lugia and Ho-oh flying overhead and grabbing their feathers in Pokopia is always fun, especially once you unlock the ability to interact with them on the ground. Lunala could join their ranks and fly overhead at night, introducing a new resource or series of collectible recipes to the game (similar to how Celeste functions in Animal Crossing: New Horizons).
Sinistea & Polteageist (Generation 8)
Frankly, there aren’t enough ghost or foodie Pokémon in Pokopia, and Sinistea and Polteageist are iconic. Enough said.
Greavard & Houndstone (Generation 9)
Greavard and Houndstone could join Pokopia in a seasonal Halloween event and come with graveyard-themed items for players to create haunted areas. While it’s true that there’s already a gravestone item in-game and some candles, these two could introduce even more.
Cetoddle & Cetitan (Generation 9)
Cetoddle and Cetitan are two of the newest ice-type Pokémon to be introduced, and they deserve to live in a new, wintery biome!
Koraidon (Generation 9)
We’re not saying that we need Pokémon mounts in Pokopia… but Koraidon and Miraidon (pictured below) are right there…

…and who doesn’t love a Pokémon who’s also a Transformer?
Pokémon: Pokopia is available now for Nintendo Switch 2 for $69.99. The Expansion Pass DLC is available for pre-order for $34.99 and will release in three parts starting in August.
