Seven Seas Entertainment announced just about a year ago the license acquisition of the manga series Chainsmoker Cat by Nyan Nyan Factory. The series began in 2023 and has eleven volumes so far, with it ongoing. We learned in February 2026 that an anime adaptation has been announced with plans for a July 2026 debut.
With a July 2nd, 2026, premiere date, the production has now revealed that there will be an on-air version and an “Evil Dragon Unleashed” version for some episodes that align more with the director’s intention. Nothing specific was mentioned as to what the differences will be.
We recently saw a trailer from Netflix showing off the series, as you can see below, and now OceanVeil has announced its pickup of the show as a simulcast partner as well.
The series features Taku Kimura directing it from the scripts by Takashi Aoshima. Riki Matsuura is handling the character designs with Bibury Animation Studio on the production.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Yuko Natsuyoshi as Yani
- Misato Matsuoka as Yaku Neko
- Yurie Funato as Hame Neko
- Ayaka Shimizu as Kansai Neko
- Shiori Izawa as Al Neko
- Riko Akechi as Tatsurō Ochinpo
- Tetsu Inada as Landlord
- Rina Honnizumi as Imoko
The opening song is “Nanmonee” by Wasureranneyo, while the ending theme song is “Kemuri to Blue” as performed by Necry Talkie.

Plot Concept: Yani is a catgirl with a seriously bad smoking habit. She smokes so much that her apartment smells like ash and is littered with cigarette butts—and plenty of other trash! Every time she tries to quit, she becomes weak to the cravings and gives in almost instantly. Will she ever get her life together, or is she doomed to live as a chainsmoking slob forever?
