Who needs to Hellfire Gala when you have your own summer event? That’s especially the case when it comes to Mary Jane Watson and Knull in Marvel’s Queen in Black this summer. Mary Jane, the All-New Venom, will receive her new duds in the pages of Venom #259 this June.
Knull, on the other hand, is taking the color wheel to task and changing everything about himself that you ever knew. Instead of his classic black and scarlet look, the King in Black will soon don a snow-white suit, even brighter than his pasty-white skin. That look takes effect in this summer’s Knull #5.

“MJ’s new look represents a ‘levelling up’ of sorts,” Venom writer Al Ewing explained in a Marvel release. “After her most serious challenge as Venom so far, it represents a reassessment of her relationship with the symbiote – just in time for an even bigger threat looming on the horizon.”
Mary Jane’s new look comes courtesy of R.B. Silva while Knull’s seismic change is from the mind of character co-creator Ryan Stegman.

As Marvel explains, Knull’s new look comes after the character conquers the Lightforce Dimension. “But wait! An enemy he thought he’d eliminated with extreme prejudice is back for more…and he comes upgraded for battle this time,” a synopsis for the story reads. “Meanwhile, the newly crowned Queen in Black, Hela of Asgard, is beginning to question her strategy against Knull – is it time to activate Plan B? This is it! The bombastic grand finale! Who will fall? Who will rise? Who will CLAIM THE LIGHT?!”
Both titles are expected to be a part of the House of Ideas’ Queen in Black event launching later this year. Starring the Hela, the event is set to spin out of the events of the ongoing Venom series and Knull limited series.
