Back in 2024, we got to talk about how Square Enix Manga was bringing another manga series to print as they solicited for the first volume of Just Like Mona Lisa. Then, in June 2025, we talked about how it looked like a domain name had been registered for the property with an anime adaptation. As we mention each time, domain registrations are not guarantees of an anime, but are the first blip on a radar to take interest in a potential announcement.
That adaptation has now been formally announced with the reveal that SHAFT is handling the production. No details were revealed beyond that and the visual below, and that more announcements will come at the ANImagic convention this summer.
The property comes from creator Tsumuji Yoshimura which began serialization in 2018 in Gangan Online for Square Enix. Known originally as Seibetsu “Mona Lisa” no Kimi e, it has ten volumes out in Japan and is listed as complete.

But bubbly girl Ritsu and thoughtful boy Shiori both confess their feelings on the same day! Romance was never on Hinase’s mind, so how can they respond? Hinase must explore their identity as they arrive at the cusp of adulthood.
Who will they choose, and who will they become?
