Actor, filmmaker, and author Bruce Campbell has today shared he has been diagnosed with cancer. The news comes via a new post on Instagram, where Campbell describes his cancer as “treatable”, albeit not “curable.”

“I apologize if that’s a shock – it was to me too,” wrote Campbell. “The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change – appearances and cons and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment.”

Campbell explained his plan now is to get as well as possible over the summer in order to be able to tour alongside his upcoming film Ernie & Emma this fall, and he regretfully noted he will have to cancel several planned convention appearances over the coming summer.

“That’s about it,” Campbell concluded. “I’m not trying to enlist sympathy – or advice – I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).”

“Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around for a while.”

A prolific film and TV actor, Bruce Campbell burst into acting via 1981’s The Evil Dead – Sam Raimi’s enormously successful independent horror film that has gone on to be regarded as a cult cinema classic and an icon of the genre. Campbell has worked steadily across B movies, blockbusters, TV shows, and voice acting ever since, navigating “the choppy waters of blue-collar Hollywood” (as he described in his 2001 autobiography If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor).
