Kinema Citrus announced all the way back in May 2024 an interesting new project with a Little Mermaid-inspired TV series called Goodbye, Lara. The project, which is set for a 2026 debut, will have Takushi Koide as the director with character designs by Shiori Tani. Anna Kawahara is handling the series composition.
With plans for a July 5th, 2026, premiere date set previously, the production has now updated with the clean version of the opening sequence below.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Hana Hishikawa as Lara
- Nana Kawaishi as Mari Otsu
- Rica Fukami as Grace
- Ayumu Murase as Luca
- Tomohiro Ōno as Yoshihiro Otsu
- Mitsuaki Madono as Makoto Otsu
- Nanae Sumitomo as Ema Otsu
- Masaki Terasoma as Rowan
The series features the opening theme song “Sayonara Lara” as performed by Ikimono-gakari, and the ending theme song “Hearts Glow” as performed by Hana Hope.

Plot Concept: A mermaid makes a forbidden wish to be loved by a human. Following her death, she is reborn 200 years later into modern-day Japan in Lake Biwa, where she learns to adjust to the human world.
