A new Gintama compilation anime film is in the works for 2026 with Gintama New Film Version: Yoshiwara in Flames, which will cover episodes 139 through 146 from the series. The film has set Naoya Ando to direct it from the screenplay by Taku Kishimoto. Shinji Takeuchi is handling the character designs and serving as the chief animation director with Bandai Namco Pictures on the animation production.
The two-hour film saw a February 13th, 2026, release, and now Bandai Namco Filmworks has set the Japanese home video release plans. The film is getting separate DVD and Blu-ray editions that arrive on August 26th, 2026. More details will come later, but it’s set for an included commentary track among the usual standard extras.
The Japanese cast includes Daisuke Sakaguchi as Shinpachi Shimura, Rie Kugimiya as Kagura, Tomokazu Sugita as Gintoki Sakata, Akira Ishida as Kotarō Katsura, Banjō Ginga as Hōsen, Hōchū Ōtsuka as Abuto, Kappei Yamaguchi as Enkaku, Kazuya Nakai as Tōshirō Hijikata, Kenichi Suzumura as Sōgo Okita, Kikuko Inoue as Hinowa, Satoshi Hino as Kamui, Susumu Chiba as Isao Kondō, Tetsuharu Ōta as Sagaru Yamazaki, Yūko Kaida as Tsukuyo, and Yūko Sanpei as Seita.
The film features the theme song by SUPER BEAVER with “Sanzen.”
Plot Concept: Yoshiwara is an underground red-light district governed by different laws. Gintoki bumps into a pickpocketing kid that needs money to buy a woman who he believes to be his mother…
