A new manga series launched earlier this year with the announcement of Pi to Po to Machinagara. The new project debuted in the 2/2026 installment of Monthly Comic Beam magazine and comes from creator Hideki Arai. Now, the first volume is coming out on July 10th, 2026, and we’ve got a look at the finalized cover below and the larger premise in full.
Arai made their debut in 1990 with 8-gatsu no Hikari and have eighteen works to their name.
Comic Beam is a Japanese seinen manga magazine published by Enterbrain on a monthly basis since November 1995.
Plot Concept: “No, I can’t take it anymore.” A serious comedy depicting the daily life of a hitman who doesn’t want to kill and his Java sparrow.
Take, a man who reluctantly makes a living as an assassin, has no one he trusts except his wife. He has no relatives and no friends. One day, his wife disappears, and he finds himself alone. Thus begins the hitman’s life with the Java sparrow his wife left behind. Taking care of a Java sparrow is so hard work! He has to let it out of its cage to play, feed it every day, clean the cage, give it baths, and keep the temperature constant. Even amidst all this, assassination requests keep coming. There is nothing more difficult than balancing killing and taking care of a bird. A serious comedy depicting the daily life of a hitman and his Java sparrow.
