The results are in, and Goku is officially both the biggest winner and loser in Dragon Ball‘s latest character statistical reveal.
Coinciding with Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri, the official results of the first worldwide Dragon Ball character poll were revealed in late January. As many fans expected, Goku came out on top as the most popular Dragon Ball character worldwide (sorry, Vegeta). However, what fans might not have expected is the surprising data behind Goku’s history as a fighter.
Per the official Dragon Ball website, provided alongside other fascinating character trivia on his winning page, Goku has won 76 out of his 117 battles, losing 16 in total. This gives him a win rate of just 65% — a rather shockingly low percentage given his reputation as the strongest character in Dragon Ball — and in all of anime in general.
Dragon Ball’s Goku Claims Global Victory Amid Shocking Win-Loss Ratio
“Goku’s overall record in Dragon Ball consists of 117 battles, with 76 wins, 16 losses, and 25 without a clear outcome,” the official Dragon Ball website reads. “That gives him a win rate of only about 65%, which perhaps reflects Goku’s love of battle for the sake of battle, regardless of the outcome. Interestingly, Goku didn’t win a single battle during the Android/Cell arc. After defeating Frieza on Planet Namek, his next win wasn’t until he beat Yakon on Babidi’s spaceship!”
The official Dragon Ball website also accounted for the explosive finale of the “Cell Games,” where Goku’s spirit helped his son defeat Perfect Cell once and for all, declaring the win for Gohan, not Goku. It’s not only among the highest-rated moments in Dragon Ball Z by fans, but it also almost served as the definitive ending to Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama until he was persuaded by the Shonen Jump staff to continue.
While most fans would assume that Goku’s signature attack would be the Kamehameha or Spirit Bomb, the official Dragon Ball website revealed that Goku is a kicker. “Kicks were Goku’s most commonly used finishing blow, with a staggering total of 11 times! He took out opponents with a ton of different kinds, from powerful flying kicks to spin kicks.
When he broke into the Red Ribbon Army Headquarters, one panel showed Goku knocking out two soldiers at once with an amazing mid-air kick! As a side note, Goku only used his signature Kamehameha as his finishing technique three times!”

Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri marked the beginning of a brand-new era for Dragon Ball Super, officially confirming an anime remake for the fall 2026 lineup and the long-awaited adaptation of the fan-favorite story arc, the “Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga.”
Unfortunately, a return date for the Dragon Ball Super manga wasn’t announced at the January event. Toyotarou, the artist and now sole creator of the Dragon Ball Super manga, remains involved with the franchise.
