This fall, Doctor Doom goes to Hell in two all new series from Marvel Comics. First, spinning out of the events of Avengers: Armageddon and Captain America, Namor and T’Challa travel to Hell to investigate demonic attacks on their kingdoms, bringing them face to face with Doom in Black Panther/Namor: Doomed by Griffin Sheridan, Ethan S. Parker, and Stefano Nesi. Then in DOOM ALL-ON-ONE by Al Ewing and Alessandro Cappuccio, Doom challenges Mephisto for his mother’s soul against the entire Marvel Universe, told entirely in landscape splash pages.
Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1 Cover by Dave Johnson
Following his death in One World Under Doom, Doctor Doom has taken up residence in Hell where he will cross paths with Black Panther and Namor in Black Panther/Namor: Doomed. The two monarchs must embark on a quest to the underworld when Atlantis and Wakanda are attacked by demonic forces. Sheridan comments, “T’Challa, Namor, and Doom are among the richest characters comics have to offer. Not only are all three of them iconic in their own right, but the interpersonal relationships they have with each other seem to be an endless wellspring for enthralling stories. These are colossal characters, so we’re throwing a story with colossal stakes at them – a story that finds Black Panther, Sub-Mariner, and Doctor Doom all in unique, new roles within the Marvel Universe. For those reasons and many others, working on Doomed has been a real privilege.” Black Panther/Namor: Doomed #1 will be released on September 2nd with a cover by Dave Johnson.
Then in October, Ewing and Cappuccio will send Doom to Hell to once again battle Mephisto to save his mother’s soul in Doom All-On-One #1. Drawing from Marvel All-On-One #1 by Ryan North and Ed McGuinness, as well as Fantastic Four (1961) #252 by John Byrne, this 50 page special will pit Doctor Doom against the entire Marvel Universe in landscape splash pages. Ewing shared this about the project, “The brief for this was fifty pages of Doom versus Everybody in explosive widescreen action, and I’d like to think I’ve delivered that and a little bit more. I don’t think any Doom fans will be disappointed by the Doctor’s performance as we go back to one of the great classical eras of Marvel and knock seven bells out of it – not just against the heroes, but against one of Doom’s greatest villains, too. The real star of the show in a project like this is the art, though, and Alessandro’s risen to the challenge with page after page of all-out action you’ll have to see to believe.” From the press release Cappuccio adds, “Working on the pages of this comic was a challenge as I had never worked in a format like this before, so it was both fun and stimulating for me to find artistic solutions that best suited the project’s needs. I’ve always been fascinated by Dr. Doom, and I hope my passion for this character shines through the pages to the readers.” Doom All-On-One #1 will be released on October 7th featuring variant covers by Greg Capullo and Inhyuk Lee.
