Beeple Studios, a 50,000-square-foot creative space on Daniel Island, is offering a new model for what an art venue can be in the Lowcountry. Founded in 2023 by internationally recognized digital artist and Charleston native Mike Winkelmann, known professionally as Beeple, the studio blends digital art, hands-on experiences and community-driven programming in a space designed to be accessible to a wide range of audiences.
Rather than operating as a traditional museum or gallery, Beeple Studios functions as a working studio, exhibition space and event venue. The space invites visitors to engage directly with art — whether through immersive installations, live demonstrations or interactive programming — rather than passively viewing finished work.
“We want to create a space where people can explore a wide range of events and connect with the community in meaningful ways,” Winkelmann said. “We have something for everyone — experiences that go beyond what people typically expect from digital or physical art.”
At the center of the studio is a 13,000-square-foot digital art gallery featuring large-scale digital prints, immersive installations and a kinetic video sculpture. The gallery showcases selections from Winkelmann’s long-running “Everydays” series — daily digital artworks he has created consistently since 2007 — alongside additional other digital, NFT and physical works.
Since opening, Beeple Studios has hosted a variety of free, public events that combine live, digital and interactive art. Programming has included Charleston Art Night, community nights, fundraisers and special events featuring pottery, painting, jewelry making, basket weaving and other creative disciplines. The studio has also expanded beyond traditional art programming to include video game gatherings and civic events, drawing a broad and diverse audience.
Charleston was a natural choice for the studio. Having lived in the area before his high-profile NFT auction, Winkelmann decided to stay in the Lowcountry and invest in a physical space designed to foster creative exchange, especially for digital artists.
