Fantagraphics and Marvel have once again partnered to release a series of art books featuring a significant creator from the latter’s history. Debuting this month, The Marvel Creator Collection No. 1: “Back to the Savage Land” – Barry Windsor-Smith at Marvel is a three-volume series featuring Windsor-Smith’s early work.

Today, The Beat can reveal an exclusive sneak peek at “Back to the Savage Land,” which features Windsor-Smith’s pre-Conan work on X-Men, The Avengers, Doctor Strange, and Iron Man. It even includes his run on “Ka-Zar” in Astonishing Tales.

    Check out the preview below.

“I have literally been following Barry Windsor-Smith’s career since 1969 when he debuted at Marvel Comics and immediately became my 2nd favorite artist (after Jack Kirby),” said Fantagraphics Publisher and Co-Founder Gary Groth. “So, it is a distinct pleasure to have the privilege of finally presenting all the work he did for Marvel (with the exception of Conan) in a gorgeously produced three-volume hardcover series.”

The second and third volumes of The Marvel Creator Collection: Barry Windsor-Smith at Marvel will feature his work on Machine Man and Weapon X, among other milestones.

The Marvel Creator Collection No. 1: “Back to the Savage Land” – Barry Windsor-Smith at Marvel, Vol. 1 will be available everywhere books are sold on April 29.
