Clover Press has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for softcover collections of 1980s Spider-Man newspaper strips by Stan Lee, with art by Iron Man co-creator Larry Lieber, Airboy artist Fred Kida, and Transformers artist Floro Dery. Today, The Beat can reveal an exclusive sneak peek.
“By the early 1980s, Spider-Man was firmly established on the newspaper page,” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz. “Following the success of our campaign to collect the first four years of The Amazing Spider-Man Newspaper Comic, we are thrilled to continue the line.
“The strips from 1981 to 1984 feature a more seasoned wall crawler navigating longer, more intricate storylines that balance action, emotional drama, and classic Peter Parker misfortune,” Kanalz continued. “This era paired Stan Lee with a rotating roster of artists, including Larry Lieber, Fred Kida, and Floro Dery, each bringing their own visual style to the daily strip.”

Lee and co.’s ’80s Spidey strips were originally remastered and collected in hardcover by the Library of American Comics, but those editions are now largely out of print. Clover Press has reintroduced them in more accessible and affordable softcovers for new fans and collectors alike.
Each strip is faithfully reprinted, with full-color Sunday pages integrated into the dailies. The Amazing Spider-Man Classic Newspaper Comics softcovers are printed in 11″ x 8.5″ horizontal format and come with protective, vertical slipcases. Kickstarter backers can pick up all four volumes in a single bundle and get their hands on bonus rewards like stickers, lithographs, a pocket book facsimile, a puzzle, and more.
