Light the beacons and ready the gates, Sarah J. Maas fans, because this Suriel tea is piping hot: The sixth “ACOTAR” book you’ve been waiting for finally has a release date.
Oh, and a seventh book has one, too.
The author of the wildly popular “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series — as well as the “Throne of Glass” and “Crescent City” books — has revealed dates for her next two drops:
- Oct. 27, 2026: “ACOTAR” 6
- Jan. 12, 2027: “ACOTAR” 7
This news, shared by Maas in her highly anticipated appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, did not accompany titles or cover art — but she did share that these books will be part of one big story told in three books.
“It came out of me in a way that surprised me,” she told host Alex Cooper. “I like to do parts: part one, part two, part three. By the time I got to the end of part one, it was, like, 400 pages long.”
The first part of this story will be told in “ACOTAR” 6 and the second two parts will be in “ACOTAR” 7. The fourth and final part of this story will come down the line.
“It’s meant to be read as one massive, massive story,” she said.
This is a significant update for Maas‘ legions of fans, who scour her interviews and social posts for even the most minor hints. The last time Maas shared a development was with us at TODAY in January 2024, right after her latest book release. She had her next four books planned, Maas said, the next one being an “ACOTAR” book. The one after that is a book she’s “very excited about” but wouldn’t say what series it relates to.
Maas, who made her debut in publishing in 2012, currently has a sprawling catalogue of 16 books spanning three different romantasy series — “A Court of Thorns and Roses,” better known as “ACOTAR,” as well as “Throne of Glass” and “Crescent City” — all of which have massive fan bases and thrust Maas on to bestseller lists.
“ACOTAR” is often the gateway into the Maas-iverse, though Maas hasn’t released a book in that series since 2021’s “A Court of Silver Flames.” The last two books Maas released, in 2022 and 2024, were part of her “Crescent City” series. In 2023, Maas signed a new deal with her publisher, Bloomsbury, to add four more books to the three she already had under contract at the time.
“ACOTAR” celebrated its 10th anniversary last spring. The first novel introduces readers to the world of Prythian, where immortal beings called Fae preside over a system of courts, at times feuding with each other and other lands in their world.
The first three books in the series followed Feyre, a human girl who is introduced to the world of the Fae and brought to the Spring Court — “Beauty and the Beast” style — after killing one of the Fae. Over the course of “ACOTAR” and its next two sequels, “A Court of Mist and Fury” and “A Court of Wings and Ruin,” Feyre not only turns Fae, she becomes High Lady of one of the most feared courts.
Maas continued the series with a novella, “A Court of Frost and Starlight,” before switching focus in “A Court of Silver Flames,” told from the dual perspectives of Feyre’s caustic and traumatized oldest sister, Nesta, and her love interest, Cassian.
