Three years ago, Mister Magic debuted to critical acclaim, taking readers on a horrific journey following five survivors of a tragic accident on the set of the eponymous children’s show. Now, Ten Speed Graphic is adapted the Kiersten White prose novel into sequential art—and The Beat has an exclusive first look at the graphic novel.
Adapted by Scott Peterson and illustrated by Veronica Fish and Andy Fish, our preview shows the kids in a psychedelic scene related to the show before one of the characters, Val, returns home in a remote cabin.
“Thirty years after a tragic accident shut down production of the cult-classic children’s program Mister Magic, the five surviving cast members are still searching for the happiness they felt while they were on the show. The friendship. The feeling of belonging. And the protection of Mister Magic,” a synopsis for the series reads.

It continues, “When a twist of fate brings the castmates back to the show’s remote desert filming site, it feels like the set has been waiting for them all this time. After all, they’re the only ones who hold the secret of that circle, the mystery of the magic man in his infinitely black cape, and, maybe, the answers to what really happened on that deadly last day of the show. But are they there by choice, or have they been lured into a trap?”
Mister Magic was first released in 2023 from Del Rey, and was lauded for its supernatural-steeped take on nostalgia. Mister Magic: The Graphic Novel will be available at your local bookstores beginning June 9th.
