The WWE has a long history of both in-house romances and leaving its mark all over Hollywood. When it comes to reigning WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch and her husband, six-time WWE champion Seth Rollins, both bases are being covered a major way — the two future Hall of Famers beginning to walk a path previously blazed by several legends before them.
Also parents to a young daughter, there’s no denying the plate is full for both WWE main eventers, but Lynch already has three films under her belt, the latest being a role in 2025’s Happy Gilmore 2, but arguably her biggest role to date has her gracing the screen as Lieutenant Ya in the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, currently streaming on Paramount+.
And what of Seth Rollins? At the moment, he’s continuing to rehab an injury suffered in the WWE ring, and it’s a real one, not kayfabe, so until he’s fully healthy to return to any sort of action, don’t count on him signing up to be the usual Hollywood action hero. Rollins does have film and TV credits under his belt, but he’s also made it clear he’d be perfectly fine to not pursue a film career in ways that mirror the paths of John Cena, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson or Dave Bautista.
But, if he did, Lynch has the perfect role for him, and it doesn’t exactly sound like she had to wrestle with the idea much, if at all. The women’s IC champ spilled her screenplay idea to CBR In Studio as Rollins listened ever-so-intently while wearing a swoon-infused grin.
“A handsome love interest,” Lynch told her husband when he posed the question. “So what happens in this rom-com — because you’d be in a rom-com — and she’s with this horrible guy, awful guy. And she finds out he’s been playing around, so she leaves him. And then, there’s this meet-cute, and this guy is just so tall and handsome, and brooding, that she meets. She’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, he can’t be real.’ And then he listens real well, and he’s real nice and real smart.”
A True Story Rom-Com Based on Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins?
OK, so this feels more as if Lynch is simply putting their love story, right? That would be correct, she admitted, playfully grinning at her husband: “They go off and can’t make it work but, in the end, they make it work. You’re the guy. And she is me.”
Much like when Lynch and Rollins are in the ring or cutting a promo for RAW or WWE Smackdown, this sounds like top-notch storytelling and not because of the usual romantic comedy tropes, but more because of who it involves. Fact is, Lynch and Rollins, like so many other WWE superstars, are on the road performing for the large majority of each calendar year and, as such, are forced to balance their marriage with parenting with their individual careers that, as noted, involve being main event talent for a multi-billion dollar promotion.
It would be fascinating to see a dramatization of their romance in a Hollywood film, building upon the glimpses provided during Season 2 of WWE: Unreal and, who knows, maybe one day we all just might. It sure does sound as if Lynch already has the script ready, but that isn’t surprising when considering they’re living it in real time.
WWE: Unreal Season 2 is currently streaming on Netflix.
