Welcome back to The Beat Digest, a twice-weekly round-up of the biggest comics-related news stories we’ve missed every Tuesday and Friday. Is there a story out there you think we should cover? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant #4 cover by R.B. Silva

§ Via AIPT, Marvel revealed Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant #4 (of 5) will introduce the character’s daughter, Furaha. Little else was said about the girl, who first appeared as a vision in last year’s X-Men: Hellfire Vigil, although her name does mean “joy” in Swahili. Writer Murewa Ayodele told the site, “It brought me great pleasure to finally get to write Storm and Furaha interacting together on the page. I find their exchanges extremely wholesome.” The comic, featuring art by Federica Mancin, will be released on May 6.

§ Comic Book Club reports Skybound’s Universal Monsters series Creature from the Black Lagoon Lives! is getting a two-part, black-and-white rerelease. The 2024 series, by Dan Watters, Ram V, and Matthew Roberts, was a contemporary sequel to the 1954 classic, that followed a journalist who encounters the Gill-man in the Amazon. Issue #1 will be released on May 27, and issue #2 will follow on June 24. In the meantime, Skybound’s next Universal book, Phantom of the Opera (by Tyler Boss and Martin Simmonds), will begin on February 25.

Rick and Morty Forever #0 wraparound cover, by Troy Little

§ Via io9, Oni Press announced the Rick and Morty comics will end with Rick and Morty Forever, a 48-page one-shot by Daniel Kibblesmith and Troy Little, on May 27. Replacing the originally planned sixth issue of Kibblesmith and Jarrett Williams‘s Rick and Morty: The End, Forever will find Rick Sanchez now an omniscient being, and finding it pure torture. But when he discovers “a fate of unspeakable horror” awaits his grandson Morty, Rick is forced to overcome his “cosmic impotence.” In the meantime, The End #5 will reveal how all of this transpired on April 8.

§ Variety shares that DC has delayed the release of the Clayface movie slightly. The body horror film, starring Tom Rhys Harries as the longtime Batman villain, was originally slated for September 11, but will now arrive in time for Halloween on October 23. Warner Bros. subsequently moved up Practical Magic 2, starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, to Clayface‘s original release date. Clayface, directed by James Watkins, and co-starring Naomi Ackie, is not a spin-off of The Batman, centering instead on the Creature Commandos‘s version of the character’s origin.

§ Film Music Reporter states A Mosquito in the Ear, a drama film based on the Italian graphic novel by Andrea Ferraris, premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival last week. Directed by newcomer Nicola Rinciari, and starring Jake Lacy & Nazanin Boniadi, the film follows an American couple trying to adopt a girl from India. While the movie currently doesn’t have a distributor, CAM Sugar has opted to tide us over by releasing Franco Piersanti‘s score:

§ In gaming news, Skybound released a trailer showcasing the Viltrumite characters in Invincible VS, the fighting game arriving on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on Thursday, April 30:

Tribute Games, meanwhile, dropped a new gameplay trailer for Scott Pilgrim EX, coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch on Tuesday, March 3:

§ Finally, writer Paul Allor (Marvel Rivals, Young Men in Love) started a GoFundMe after being hospitalized for diabetic ketoacidosis, which was “a terrible complication from a routine surgery.” Any donations will go towards insulin, prescribed medication, bills, and other medical costs. “Insulin in particular isn’t optional or something I can delay. Missing doses puts me at serious risk of ending up back in the hospital,” they say. At the time of writing, they have reached their $13,000 goal, which has now been raised to $18,000.
