Solo Leveling has just matched one of Marvel Studios’ biggest milestones of the year.
Per Deadline, the official list of Saturn Award nominees is in, and Solo Leveling — Arise from the Shadow has secured a spot as one of the nominees for Best Animated Television Series or Event. This puts the anime right alongside Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld, Hulu and 20th Century Fox’s Predator: Killer of Killers, and Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios’ Harley Quinn and Creature Commandos.

Solo Leveling began with original author Chugong’s hit 2016 web novel, which quickly cemented itself as the then-latest hit fantasy series. The story revolves around Sung Jinwoo, a generally weak yet fiercely dedicated monster hunter who is constantly fighting for his life. When a mysterious program known as The System offers Jinwoo the opportunity to literally level up his strength and abilities, it paves the way for him to uncover a vast conspiracy that runs to the very heart of his reality.
The first Solo Leveling anime season from studio A-1 Pictures premiered in 2024 to rave reviews from critics and a generally positive response from audiences. As of the time of writing, Solo Leveling Season 1 holds a perfect 100% critical “Fresh” rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 79% audience-generated “Popcornmeter” score, the latter of which was averaged across more than 250 reviews.
Season 2, Solo Leveling — Arise from the Shadow, premiered in January 2025 and continued the series’ trend of widespread critical success. Not only does it boast another perfect 100% “Fresh” rating via Rotten Tomatoes, but it also holds an even higher audience approval rating (80% as averaged across more than 100 verified user-submitted reviews) than Season 1.

Fans of the franchise are currently looking forward to two major releases in the coming years, including either a third season of the fan-favorite anime series or, as rumors and alleged “leaks” have claimed, an upcoming anime movie. Although there has been no official announcement regarding the production status of either Solo Leveling Season 3 or a feature film, keen-eyed fans believe they have already caught a glimpse of what the next anime might entail, courtesy of the trailer for the upcoming roguelike game Solo Leveling: Karma.
Solo Leveling fans are also waiting in eager anticipation of Netflix’s planned live-action adaptation of the series. In November 2025, it was reported that South Korean actor Kang You Seok was set to portray Yoo Jin-ho in Netflix’s live-action Solo Leveling show, alongside Byeon Woo-seok as Sung Jinwoo and Han So-hee as Cha Hae-in. The series is slated to be directed by Ashfall, Like a Virgin, Castaway on the Moon, My Dictator and Cold Eyes directors Lee Hae-jun and Kim Byung-seo.
