Welcome back to The Beat Digest, a twice-weekly round-up of the biggest comics-related news stories we’ve missed every Tuesday and Friday. Is there a story out there you think we should cover? Be sure to let us know in the comments.

MIND MGMT: New & Improved #1 cover A, by Matt Kindt

§ ICv2 reports Matt Kindt’s new series at Oni Press, MIND MGMT: New & Improved and Fort Psycho, will be available only physically at first, with “no-digital windows that will extend until 30 days after the release of the fourth issues.” The books, which mark the first in a partnership between Kindt’s imprint Flux House and Oni, will begin respectively on June 24, and in August. In the meantime, you can check out covers for both titles respectively here and here.

§ Marvel shared a preview of Reborn: Ultimate Impact #1, revealing the new characters who’ll derive their powers from the origin boxes Miles Morales recovered from the Ultimate Universe. They consist of Vin Lerner, the new Wonder Man (who, like, his MCU counterpart, is Black); Hostilicus (Mar-Vell), Scourge of the Negative Zone; Mogul (Juggernaut); and Sightseer (Doctor Strange). The five-part series will begin on May 20, before the arrival of Ultimate Endgame #5 on June 3, and Ultimate Universe: Finale on June 10.

Xanar & Mr. Tuxedo cover by Giulia Giacomino

§ Papercutz revealed Xanar and Mr. Tuxedo, a multiversal adventure from writer Sean Ryan (Nova, The Amazing Spider-Man) and artist Giulia Giacomino (Lilo & Stitch), releasing July 7. The middle-grade graphic novel follows Xanar, “a boyish, optimistic robot,” and Mr. Tuxedo, “a gruff, one-eyed penguin” from another universe, who must team up to stop Roy Higgins, “a powerful sorcerer,” whose quest “to eradicate his sworn enemy in every single reality” threatens all of existence.

§ Via Entertainment Weekly, Ten Speed Graphic revealed a graphic novelization of Ready Player One, that will reunite writer Scott Peterson and artist Meredith Laxton (The Old Willis Place) on the creative team. It’ll be released exclusively in hardcover at Target on October 6, before becoming available everywhere else on March 2, 2027. The original book, by Ernest Cline, was released in 2011, and received a sequel, Ready Player Two, which will also get a graphic novelization in 2028.

§ Daredevil: Born Again season two got a new trailer, revealing more of Krysten Ritter‘s return as Jessica Jones, as well as the briefest of footage from May 12’s special The Punisher: One Last Kill. Jessica’s footage in particular drops a big bombshell, that won’t come as a huge shock after this weekend’s leaks, but will prove to be a pleasant surprise for longtime fans of the character. The fourth episode of Born Again season two will premiere on Disney+ tonight.

§ Superfan Promotions has launched the second season of its eponymous podcast, interviewing comics creators about their interests outside comics. The first episode, featuring Jim Rugg on wrestling, is available now, and the next entries will have Maia Kobabe on k-pop, Johnnie Christmas on Midnight Mass, Paul Pope on the music of Rowland S. Howard, Erica Henderson on Discworld, and Elsa Charretier on game-based dog training.

§ Finally, Variety reports footage from Batman: Knightfall will debut at this summer’s Annecy Animation Festival. Knightfall, which will be the first in a series adapting the early ’90s storyline where Batman was paralyzed by Bane, will be unveiled at some point during the French festival, held from June 21-27. The first two episodes of The Ghost in the Shell, the new anime retelling of the original manga, will also premiere there. The show will be released on Prime Video afterwards in July.
