On an interview with podcast The Escape Pod, Brad Winderbaum, the Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, confirmed a second season of Marvel Zombies in the works. About five mins in, he states, “I saw the first animatic of the first episode of Marvel Zombies season two this morning. It was crazy, I can’t say anything about it, but it delivers not just on like zombies, but also on like an MCU thing that has never really happened before that we’re very excited to do.”
Released on Disney+ late last year, Marvel Zombies was a four-part continuation of the What If…? episode “Zombies?!,” itself inspired by the Ultimate Fantastic Four spin-off by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips from 2005. The TV-MA show followed Iman Vellani‘s Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel and several other characters introduced in the Multiverse Saga, as they sought a way to end the plague that had turned so many heroes into undead monstrosities.
The season concluded on a cliffhanger, with Kamala initially believing the Red Queen/Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) had managed to undo the plague with the power of the Infinity Stones, only to start hearing the voice of the supposedly dead Riri Williams/Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) warn her it was all an illusion. Whether season two would also center on Kamala remains to be seen.
No ETA was provided for season two, although it might arrive in late 2027 or 2028. Having been nominated for Best Limited Series at the Annies, and Best Animated Television Series or Special at the Saturns, it will mark the second show billed as a miniseries to be renewed by Marvel, following the live-action, main MCU series Wonder Man.
In the meantime, seasons two of Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will both premiere on Disney+ sometime later this year. You can also read our prior report on what else to expect from Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again next year.
