Post Falls wildlife and aviation artist Priscilla Patterson’s works have been accepted into the Cheyenne Days Western Spirit Art Exhibition.
The show runs from March 7 to April 19 at the Old West Art Museum in Cheyenne with an online preview Feb. 13. Patterson has additional artwork at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center in Post Falls and she is a proud sponsor of the Kootenai County Saddle Club. Four of her works will be in the upcoming Members’ Exhibit at the JACC that opens Feb. 8.
Patterson’s watercolor paintings “Lookouts” and “Quick Draw” will be displayed during the Western Spirit Art Exhibition.
“Continually photographing at every opportunity featuring horses, I found this pair at the Mounted Shooters event at our local fairgrounds,” Patterson said of “Lookouts.” “They had finished their ride and were turned out to rest in a portable corral but remained vigilant to their surroundings.”
According to Northwest Mounted Shooters’ website, mounted shooting is a fast-paced sport where contestants compete on horseback using two .45 caliber single-action revolvers shooting black powder blanks. The object of the competition is to hit all targets in a course while riding a horse at top speeds.
Patterson’s “Quick Draw” is a representation of this cowboy sport. She said this event is a favorite place to photograph action as well as people and horses.
“This cowgirl is ready to draw,” Patterson said.
