IDW Publishing has announced two new ongoing Star Trek comics and more to mark the franchise’s 60th anniversary. The first, simply titled Star Trek, will pick up after Star Trek: Picard (in 2402), and follow the crew of the Enterprise-G — now captained by Seven of Nine — on a top secret mission to investigate a mysterious threat outside the galaxy. Set to launch in September (when Star Trek Day, the day the original series premiered on September 8, falls), it is written by Christopher Cantwell (Star Trek: Defiant), with art by Dennis Menheere (Little Nightmares) and lettering by Jodie Troutman.

Cantwell, whose Defiant run was the sister title to Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing et al.’s 2022-25 Star Trek series, states, “If you’ve never experienced Star Trek in your entire life, this adventure is for you. It is a clean slate; truly a strange new world full of new characters — some of whom speak to what has come before, yes, but whose entire mission and purpose concerns boldly going where literally no one has gone before… not even Star Trek itself.”

The second new ongoing series will be Star Trek: Zero Point, which currently only has Charlie Jane Anders (New Mutants) attached to write. The book will follow Seven’s partner Raffi Musiker, who’s captaining another Starfleet ship outfitted with a new artificial intelligence, designed to predict new threats to the Federation. “Wearing the face of a familiar ally,” the AI “may know too much, and understand too little about hope.” It will launch in October.

Anders, who’s a newcomer to writing Trek books, says, “I’m putting all my favorite Trek things into this comic: problem solving, ethical dilemmas, identity crises, and above all, chosen family. At the same time, I’m determined to write a Trek comic that newbies can read with no homework required: there are no easter eggs, no callbacks to deep lore. Anyone who loves Becky Chambers or Martha Wells ought to be able to pick up this comic and get a fun science fiction story about artificial consciousness and exoplanets.”

Two specials were also revealed. Star Trek: Celebrations 2026 will arrive first in May, and showcase various LGBTQ+ characters in time for Pride Month in June. The second, the Star Trek 60th Anniversary Special, will follow in September, and feature new stories by Dana Gould (Planet of the Apes Visionaries: Rod Serling), Ryan North & Derek Charm (Unbeatable Squirrel Girl), David Walker (Big Jim and the White Boy), Meghan Camarena (Radiant Pink), and more.

Expect more details ahead of the books’ arrival in the coming months. In the meantime, you can check out the covers for Celebrations below. The latest Star Trek TV show, Starfleet Academy, will wrap up its first season on March 12, and its first tie-in comic, Lost Contact, will begin on April 15.
