While things may be a little up in the air for HBO Max right now, the service is still chugging along as usual with massive batches of new streaming releases. In April, the service will pick up all of the Alien movies, including Alien: Romulus and the Alien vs. Predator crossovers. As The Pitt reaches its second season finale, we’ll get new season premieres for Euphoria and Hacks. Sadly, we’ll also be getting the final episodes of Smiling Friends.
Without further ado, here’s everything coming to HBO Max in April.
Everything Coming to HBO Max in April
April 1
Highlight: The Full Alien Franchise
It’s always nice when a full franchise finds a streaming home in a single place, and that seems to be the next stage for Alien. Most Alien movies will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on April 1, while Alien: Romulus will come to the service on April 3. We were particularly big fans of the most recent release, with our 8/10 review saying it “boils everything fans love about the tonally-fluid franchise into one brutal, nerve-wracking experience.”

Highlight: Euphoria Season 3
After just over four years, Euphoria is returning for a third season. The aesthetics-oriented drama was an early part of the careers of Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi, not to mention Zendaya’s transition out of the Disney Channel, so it’ll be interesting to see what it looks like for everyone to return to their original characters. Thankfully the new season features a time jump, taking the main cast out of high school.

Highlight: Final Episodes of Smiling Friends
Smiling Friends, from creators Zach Hadel and Michael Cusack, has been a beloved cartoon since its premiere in 2020. Despite early reports that the show had been greenlit full 5 seasons, the creators recently confirmed the show would instead be ending rather abruptly with Season 3, meaning its final two episodes are premiering in April. Unfortunately, that time has arrived.

The second season of The Pitt premiered back in January and is finally coming to the end of the shift in mid-April. We were big fans of the first season, giving it a full 10/10, and it seems the medical drama has kept up the quality in Season 2.

Highlight: Marty Supreme
After picking up quite a few nominations over the awards season (alas no Oscar for Timmy), Marty Supreme is finally making its way to streaming. Here’s a snippet from our original 9/10 review:
“Equal parts fun and stressful, Marty Supreme combines the chaotic directing style of Josh Safdie with the charisma of Timothée Chalamet to make a one-of-a-kind ping pong movie that is, without a doubt, one of the year’s best films.”

That said, Paramount has closed in on its acquisition of Warner Bros., which may lead to a streaming shift at some point in the near future. For now, Paramount claims they will let Warner Bros. operate with independence, but they’ve also already floated the idea of combining Paramount+ and HBO Max into a single streaming service.
