With a January 12th, 2020, debut on Netflix in Japan, the Dorohedoro anime wrapped up its run there while also getting an OVA. Four years after that series landed, we learned in January 2024 that a sequel series had been given the green light, and in January 2025, a new teaser visual has arrived below that confirms that the new project is arriving in 2025, as it showcases some storyboards from the work.

That, obviously, didn’t happen, but it was recently rescheduled for a spring 2026 debut, and was then updated to confirm an April 1st, 2026, premiere date with plans for a largely simultaneous-ish worldwide debut.

While the focus has mostly been on the anime, the manga is out there in support of it as the upcoming 5/2026 installment of Monthly Shonen Sunday has it taking the cover spot with new artwork.

Check out our review of the series.

Yuichiro Hayashi directed the series based on the series composition by Hiroshi Seko. Tomohiro Kishi is working on the character designs with MAPPA handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Wataru Takagi as Caiman, Reina Kondo as Nikaidō, Yu Kobayashi as Noi, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Shin, Kengo Takanashi as Fujita, Kenyuu Horiuchi as En, Miyu Tomita as Ebisu, Hisao Egawa as Vaux, and Mitsuhiro Ichiki as Kasukabe. Additional casting includes Mayu Udono as Kikurage, Songdo as Risu, Tetsu Inada as Tanba, Shinichiro Miki as Turkey, Hozumi Gōda as Asu, Anri Katsu as Chōta, Tooru Nara as Matsumura, Takuma Terashima as Fukuyama, Mayu Udono as Aitake and Maitake, Hiro Shimono, Takehito Koyasu, and Miyuri Shimabukuro.

The series features the opening theme song “Zettai Must Danmen” and the ending theme song “Return to Head,” with both performed by (K)NoW_NAME.

The manga began back in 1999 and wrapped up with twenty-three volumes at the time of the announcement.

Check out our review of the first volume and subsequent releases from Viz Media.

Plot Concept: In a city so dismal it’s known only as “the Hole,” a clan of Sorcerers have been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious “experiments” in the black arts. In a dark alley, Nikaido found Caiman, a man with a reptile head and a bad case of amnesia. To undo the spell, they’re hunting and killing the Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping that eventually they’ll kill the right one. But when En, the head Sorcerer, gets word of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, he sends a crew of “cleaners” into the Hole, igniting a war between two worlds.
