I know what you’re thinking. “How banal, yet another programmer has got Doom running where it doesn’t belong.” And I get it: you’ve seen id’s formative FPS running on a Lego brick, a PDF, bacteria, 100 pounds of potatoes, a pregnancy test, and even a piano. I don’t think I could make up something more ridiculous than what’s already been done. And yet, I am still impressed by Doombuds. Thanks to Sydney-based web developer Arin Sarkisian, Doom now runs on a pair of earbuds. More specifically, it runs on the PineBuds Pro, which Sarkisian explains on his site are “the only…

Stop Killing Games volunteer Moritz Katzner has shared an update on the popular European Union Citizens’ Initiative to its official subreddit. The EU has successfully verified 1,294,188 of Stop Killing Games’ 1,448,270 signatures, easily clearing the one million minimum count it needed to move forward in the process.Under an infographic breaking down the votes by EU country, Katzner explained that the team had initially planned a big rollout of the news further down the line, close to Stop Killing Games’ next meeting with the EU Commission. According to Katzner, this smaller announcement was made because “We didn’t want to present…

Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, has experienced a good deal of pre-release turbulence. It only just got a release date after a lengthy delay following rough playtest feedback, and after a fiasco involving some stolen art assets, studio morale took a nose dive.Former art director Joseph Cross left the studio in Dec. 2025 after six years, and last Tuesday, he unpacked his thoughts on the online discourse around Marathon in an interview with Mikhail Klimentov of ReaderGrev.Cross told Klimentov the team felt distinct “spells” where talk around the game was positive at first, and then became negative. “Personally, I’m able…

It’s been a big week for democracy in PvP games starting with the word “dead.” Thursday, Deadlock reprised its in-game voting table where players can vote on which of the next six heroes will release first. Then on Friday, Dead by Daylight opened up a voting booth of its own where players can select the appearance for the next killer and survivor. You can cast your vote on the game’s website, where a spooky book seemingly bound in flesh contains various art concepts. There are four possible choices for the survivor, each of which has either heterochromia or a single blind…
Highguard, the new PvP raid shooter by the minds behind Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends, has been embroiled in controversy since it was announced at The Game Awards. Some even want to see it fail on principle alone, which is a bit harsh if you ask me. With limited marketing (non-existent, really), we’ll need to wait until the Highguard launch time and release date to settle the score.Perhaps we’re on the verge of one of the best FPS games. Perhaps not. Only time will tell. The good news is that Highguard is free to play, so you won’t be short-changed…

Despite the fact that AMD’s next-gen desktop CPU architecture, Zen 6, isn’t expected to appear until towards the end of this year, we were expecting at least two new desktop chips to arrive at CES this month. But no, all we got was a single Ryzen 7 9850X3D announcement and no mention whatsoever of the vaunted dual-CCD 3D V-Cache chip. But a new EEC listing from AMD before the weekend has listed a new Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 processor alongside the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and a bunch of Threadripper chips. (Image credit: EEC)To bring you up to speed, 3D V-Cache is AMD’s…
