On Tuesday, Ahoy Comics launched the Kickstarter campaign for The Forgotten Divine, the first of its works to boast the “100% Human-Made” open source certification label created by Matt Kindt. Ahoy is the first publisher to adopt the label for all of its upcoming releases, committing to keeping generative AI out of its titles.
The Forgotten Divine, written by Mark Russell and illustrated by Russ Braun, is a satirical sci-fi graphic novel about a group of people who have visions of far-away worlds. Here’s the synopsis:
The Forgotten Divine is a sci-fi drama about Rodney Coleman, an unhoused veteran whose sleep is haunted by dreams of a faraway planet. (At least, he thinks they’re dreams.) Soon Coleman connects with others plagued by dreams of the same world and finds himself at the head of a UFO cult. The group’s shared effort to understand their visions is heartfelt at first—but over time it descends into unreality, conspiracy, paranoia, violence, and conceivably… revelation.
The Forgotten Divine is the first title in Ahoy’s new Select line, its pop-up imprint for direct-to-consumer releases. As mentioned above, it’s also the first of Ahoy’s titles to adopt Kindt’s “100% Human-Made” label, which he and his Oni Press imprint, Flux House, announced in April.
Created under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license, the label can be used for commercial and not-for-profit purposes by any artist for for any creative work that comes fully from humans with no generative AI usage for creation, refinement, or enhancement, as long as they include the following Creative Commons attribution:
100% HUMAN-MADE © 2026 by Matt Kindt, LLC is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0
“AI is rightly loathed throughout the world of legitimate comics, and we want to make it clear to our readers that AHOY is 100% powered by the very human blood, sweat and tears of our uber-talented creators,” said Ahoy Editor-in-Chief Tom Peyer.
Those interested in backing The Forgotten Divine on Kickstarter can grab signed paperback and hardcover editions of the book, enamel pins, prints, Zoom calls with the creators, and even bathrobes.
The Forgotten Divine, bearing its “100% Human-Made” label, is available now on Kickstarter.
