Steven Spielberg is a popular filmmaker, but aside from his directorial efforts, he has been involved in multiple other projects as producer or executive producer. His wildly underrated series Extant is about to lose its biggest streaming home.
Per What’s on Netflix, fans have less than a month left to catch Extant before the hit sci-fi thriller loses its current streaming home. Extant is currently slated to leave the Netflix streaming library on Feb. 19, giving subscribers enough time to binge-watch it before it leaves.
Created by Mickey Fisher, who served as one of the series’ executive producers alongside Steven Spielberg and star Halle Berry, Extant premiered on CBS in 2014 and offered audiences a unique kind of sci-fi experience. The series stars Berry as ISEA astronaut Molly Woods, who returns home from a 13-month solo mission aboard the space station Seraphim only to discover she is somehow pregnant.
Alongside Berry, Extant stars Goran Visnjic as Molly’s husband Doctor John Woods, Pierce Gagnon as Molly and John’s son and humanoid robot Ethan, and Michael O’Neill as ISEA director Alan Sparks. In the series’ second season, Extant added Jeffrey Dean Morgan to the cast in the role of police officer and bounty hunter James Daniel “JD” Richter.
Over the course of its original run on television, Extant amassed 26 episodes across two seasons. Extant was met with generally favorable reviews from critics and audiences alike, and was even nominated for the 2014 Critics’ Choice Television Award for Most Exciting New Series.
As of the time of writing, Extant Season 1 holds an 81% “Certified Fresh” rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 42 critical reviews. Season 2 holds a 73% “Fresh” rating, as averaged across just 11 critical reviews.
For comparison, Season 1 of Extant holds a 60% audience-generated “Popcornmeter” rating, as averaged across more than 250 verified user-submitted reviews, while Season 2 holds a slightly better 61% “Popcornmeter” rating, as averaged across more than 100 verified user-submitted reviews.

Currently, Halle Berry is lined up to return to the silver screen alongside Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Barry Keoghan in writer-director Bart Layton’s Crime 101, set to arrive in theaters on February 13. The film will star Hemsworth as a jewel thief carrying out a string of robberies along the 101 freeway, while Ruffalo portrays the detective hot on his heels, and Berry the insurance broker who just so happens to cross paths with them.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be returning to two of the small screen’s biggest genre hits this year, with both The Boys Season 5 and The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 expected to arrive in 2026. Regarding what fans can expect from the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys, showrunner Eric Kripke previously promised fans that “Big stuff’s gonna happen.”
