The Yamibou: Darkness, the Hat, and the Travelers of the Books series recently found its way to some new promotion, as the folks at OceanVeil made its pickup of the series with streaming plans. The show saw a December 22nd, 2025, debut where it’s now arrived in its original Japanese language with English subtitles at 9:00 pm EDT.
The series was picked up by Media Blasters back in 2013, and we had a DVD release in the first few years and a Blu-ray release in the last few years that was bilingual in nature.
Now, Media Blasters has put together a new Amazon Exclusive edition, which is basically just branding on the cover with it being a few bucks cheaper. The set is scheduled for a July 21st, 2026, debut, priced at $29.99 for this very fun twelve-episode series in bilingual form. Check out the cover artwork below.
Plot concept: Hatsuki is a high school student living with her sister, Hatsumi, who she has a huge crush on. On Hatsumi’s 16th birthday, she is suddenly surrounded by a green light and disappears in front of Hatsuki. She manages to follow Hatsumi with the help of a being resembling a fat baby chick (literally), ending up in a place called “The Great Library”, which is full of different worlds stored in books. Hatsumi wasn’t there, though, so the search for Hatsuki’s great love begins and involves traveling from book to book.
