According to this PR from Marvel, the saga of the Amazing Spider-Man variant covers has reached a conclusion with a final blast that includes, as promised, a variant by John Romita Jr which is quite nice. This one was circulating for a while to general acclaim – much more in his wheelhouse than some previous efforts.
Also in this batch, a Frank Miller/Peach Momoko collab (!) and one based on a Steve Ditko pin-up that has never been used as a cover or printed in color. Dean White did the coloring, and it is also quite nice.
Also in this batch: a Paco Medina Muppet variant, a new cover by Skan commemorating Local Comic Shop Day, and an epic four-part connecting cover by Todd Nauck that will also run on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1001-1003.
While the furore about all the covers has died down, and we may never know exactly what transpired behind the scenes, I will say one thing: former SVP of sales and marketing David Gabriel has yet to be replaced at Marvel, and this is the kind of thing he would have had on lockdown. Head of sales is a pretty key position to be unfilled for three months. Obviously, things are changing at Marvel
Spider-Man #1000 has a main story written by Joe Kelly with art by Larraz that will change Peter Parker’s life forever; as well as a bunch of back-up stories. It goes on Sale September 16.
