Yen Press picked up the rights to this series previously after original creator Sumiko Arai revealed that their manga series Ki ni Natteru Hito ga Otoko Janakatta, which translates as The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All, was in the process of being set up for an English release. We learned initially in February 2025 that an anime was coming.
Now, the production has revealed a lot of details regarding it, including a planned January 2027 debut. One thing getting a lot of attention is the production committee shelling out the money for the Nirvana song “Breed” as the opening song. Crunchyroll has picked up the series and dropped a subtitled version of the trailer below.
The series has Masashi Ishihama directing it from the series composition by Rino Yamazaki. Kanna Hirayama is handling the character designs with CloverWorks on the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Akari Kito as Aya Osawa
- Mariya Ise as Mitsuki Koga
The manga began in spring 2022 online before moving to pixiv Comic in 2023 and has four volumes so far.

Plot Concept: Fashionable and upbeat high schooler Aya falls head over heels for an employee at a local CD shop. He’s got an air of mystery about him, great style, and impeccable music taste. Little does she know—this supposedly male employee is actually her female classmate Mitsuki! Mitsuki generally keeps to herself, but since her seat is right next to Aya’s, she can’t help but be extremely aware of the other’s crush. Revealing the truth is out of the question for Mitsuki—but perhaps getting closer to Aya wouldn’t be so bad…
