On Friday, Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures announced an anime adaptation of the novel Heir to a Monstermancer (Mammon Tsukai no Museum: Midori no Hitomi no Shojo) written by Damu Amoto and illustrated by Shirabii. Hakuhodo revealed a visual teaser and main cast for the upcoming series.
Amato debuted the novel digitally on Shosetsuka ni Nario in 2016, where it ran until 2024. Heir to a Monstermancer follows the adventurer Hakura after he’s saved from a hydra by a monstermancer named Leen and the two team up to travel together. Here’s the full synopsis from English publisher J-Novel Club:
Veteran adventurer Hakura has overcome countless trials, but his latest fight with a deadly hydra nearly costs him his life. In the nick of time, he is saved by an intriguing young lady named Leen, who, to his surprise, possesses the rare ability to tame any and all monsters! Now indebted to this unscrupulous monstermancer, Hakura decides to join her in her travels, the two of them arguing and bickering every step of the way. What has drawn them together, and what adventures await this unlikely pair?
The anime will star Manaka Iwami as Leen; Chiaki Kobayasahi as Hakura; and Akio Otsuka as Ao, all of whom are reprising their roles from a 2024 promotional video released for the novel’s first volume.
Heir to aMonstermancer will be directed by Chihiro Kumano (Odekake Kozame Season 2, Eiga Odekake Tokai no Otomodachi, The Mononoke Lecture logs of Chuzenji-sensei), with character designs by Akane Kasasagi (The Invisible Man and his Soon-to-be Wife, Once Upon a Witch’s Death) and scripts by Satoru Sugizaqa (Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective, Love After World Domination, Why Does Nobody Remember Me in This World?). Project No. 9 will produce.
“Heir to a Monstermancer is getting an anime. …It’s getting an anime!? I can hardly believe it myself, but a dream I’ve been imagining since childhood, a big, big dream, has become reality, all thanks to everyone who has supported me,” said Amato in the announcement. “It’ll be a little while before it airs, but everyone involved is giving it their all. Please wait just a little longer for the new beginning of Reen and Hakura’s messy, complicated journey.”
The release window for the Heir to a Monstermancer anime series has not yet been announced.
Drecom will publish Heir to a Monstermancer, Vol. 3 on July 10 ahead of the debut of the manga adaptation, illustrated by Yu Sato, launching on Drecomi+ in September.
