The anime adaptation in 2017 for Saga of Tanya the Evil, otherwise known as Yojo Senki, definitely went over well with an anime feature film produced as well in 2019. We learned in June 2021 that a second season had gotten the green light, and we’ve had a lot of updates in the past year. Check out our review of the first season of the series.
With plans for a formal July 8th, 2026, premiere date, the production has now updated with a new trailer for the series while previewing the new theme songs. Crunchyroll is simulcasting the series this summer.
Yutaka Uemura directed with Kana Harufuji as the assistant director working from the scripts by Kenta Ihara. Yuuji Hosogoshi served as the character designer and chief animation director with studio NUT producing the animation.
The Japanese cast includes Aoi Yuki as Tanya Degurechov, Saori Hayami as Visha, Shinichiro Miki as Relgen, Houchou Ootsuka as Seetour, and Tessyo Genda as Ludeldorf. Second season additions include Tomokazu Sugita as Mikel, Yōko Hikasa as Lilya, and Eiji Hanawa as Calandro.
The second season opening theme song is “Why? RED induction” performed by MYTH&ROID, while the ending theme song is “Weiter! Weither” as performed by Aoi Yuki in character.
The show is based on the light novel series from writer Carlo Zen and artist Shinobu Shinotsuki that began in 2013. The title translates as The Military Chronicles of a Little Girl.

Plot concept: It is June of the year CE 1923. A young girl with blond hair and blue eyes, Tanya Degurechaff, has entered the final curriculum of the Imperial Military Academy and is training at the third patrol line in the northern military district, the Norden Theater, as part of her service to the force. Her training, the first step toward a brilliant career as an aviation mage, should have gone off without a hitch… but things took an unexpected turn. War broke out between the Empire and the neighboring Federation committed a border transgression in entering the Empire. During the transition into wartime, she was assigned to observation duty, but a surprise attack by the Federation forces Tanya to engage in battle with the Federation’s mage troops. She’s greatly outnumbered with no chance of waiting for allies to arrive, but if she tries to flee, she’ll be charged with the capital crime of deserting under enemy fire. In order to survive and convince the top brass that she did the best she possibly could, Tanya enacts a certain strategy…
