Titan Comics and game developer poncle have announced a four-issue Vampire Survivors series, written by David Hazan (Nottingham), with art by Jimmy Kucaj (Dread The Halls). The comic will expand on the story of the 2022 video game, set in a version of the Italian countryside terrorized by the minions of the evil Bisconte Draculó, where the only ones standing in his way are the Belpaese family and their allies.

The full synopsis elaborates, “In this new story, familiar survivors venture through cursed realms filled with unspeakable creatures, hidden histories and increasingly bizarre mysteries as they begin uncovering secrets that were never meant to be found. As they seek answers and battle monsters in an endless library, a corrupted dairy plant, and even a mad forest, a terrible and shocking truth finally begins to reveal itself…”
Hazan comments, “It’s been incredibly fun to bring Vampire Survivors‘ iconically eclectic cast of characters to life in a way we’ve never seen them before. This game has such an enthusiastic fanbase, and Jimmy’s art is so expressive and dynamic that I can only hope that my hours spent researching ridiculous things for our Survivors to say in Italian pays off!”
Kucaj adds, “I’m so excited and honored to get to be such a big part of bringing the Vampire Survivors world to life in the pages of our comic series. I spent my childhood playing retro video games imagining what the pixels on the CRT screen would look like in full detail, so when I was told I’d be the one drawing the series I knew I’d get to do exactly that. It’s an incredible responsibility that I don’t take lightly both as a huge fan of the Vampire Survivors game but also the games that inspired the series. It’s such a privilege getting to put my own energy into these already classic feeling characters.”
Originally released in early access in 2021, ponco’s Vampire Survivors is a throwback, 8-bit shoot-em-up, where the aim is for the player to survive against an encircling horde for as long as possible. It received numerous awards, including the BAFTA for Best Game, and spawned a subgenre, simply known as Survivors-likes. The comic’s announcement comes shortly after the release of a deck-building spin-off, Vampire Crawlers, and the reveal of a new expansion, Legacy of the Bloodmoon, at Summer Game Fest, as well as plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 release.
Issue #1 will be released on September 9, and the trade paperback will follow in March 2027. You can check out the variant covers, by David Hartman and Federico Sabbatini, and an interior preview below in the meantime.
