Oni’s momentous return to Riverdale takes place this fall, and they’ve just revealed the covers of the launch issues – as well as a surprise creative change.
Announced earlier in the year, Oni is doing an revamp and relaunch of the main Archie characters, hoping to join the ranks of classic comics characters whose reboots connect directly with contemporary readers. PEOPLE Magazine had the the first look reveal for the covers.
While the creative line-up remains mostly the one announced earlier this year, Archie, the flagship title, will now be have Ben H. Winters replacing W. Maxwell Prince as writer. Fabio Moon remains the artist. Prince left the title due to scheduling issues, according to an Oni spokeperson, although “everyone at Oni is still huge fans of his work, obviously.”
Meanwhile, Winters is a New York Times bestselling writer, Edgar Award and Philip K. Dick Award winner, and an Eisner Award nominee who has written for EC’s Cruel Universe and Benjamin for Oni.
The storyline for the new Archie is similar to the one previously announced:

The launch of the Oni / Archie collaboration will coincide with the first appearance of the American icon in Pep Comics #22 in 1941, 85 years ago. Additionally, Oni announced that these releases will be followed by a new line of compact and deluxe editions with further licensing projects coming soon, as well as a live action feature film written by Tom King.
