CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Charleston’s annual Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition is heading into its final week, but the energy at Marion Square is still going strong. After days of large crowds, vibrant creativity, and one-of-a-kind artwork, both artists and visitors say the festival continues to be a standout celebration of local talent.
The festival kicked off May 22 and has since transformed Marion Square into a colorful hub of culture often compared to Italy’s renowned Festival of Two Worlds. Artists say each year brings more variety, from oil paintings to watercolors, drawing in steady foot traffic and connecting creators with the community.
“We had a great turnout, and I think people are really surprised when they see what we have here just people from all over creating wonderful art, lots of original pieces,” said Daniel Strickland, an artist.
For some, the event is also about connection. Tate Nation, a longtime artist at the festival, says engaging with the public is the most rewarding part.
“My joy is to be able to share my art with people and answer their questions… it’s a real treat to show off art and for them to appreciate it.”
As the exhibition enters its final stretch, artists are also sharing words of encouragement for aspiring creatives. Artist Daniel Jacobs says consistency is key.
“You just need to keep working at it and keep going with whatever your passion is… at some point, you’ll make it.”
The Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition runs through June 7 at Marion Square.
