One of the classics saw a new lease on life back in 2022 with Magical Princess Minky Momo getting a new Japanese Blu-ray box set released. That set was priced at 49,500 yen, it comes with a booklet and a newly illustrated box. It contains the 63-episode series from 1982 and the 65-episode second series as well as the OVAs.
Crunchyroll spent a lot of time in 2024 adding the series here to their catalog, with it available with Japanese audio and English, German, Latin American Spanish, Spanish, French, Brazillian Portuguese, and Russian subtitles.
We learned in 2025 that, as part of a 50th anniversary event for Ashi Productions, as they touch on past projects, a new project was in the works with an OVA titled Fairy Princess Minky Momo: A Duo of Sincerity Toward a Dream of Longing.
That now has gotten its next update, where it’s scheduled for a November 13th, 2026, Japanese theatrical release.
Ayumu Watanabe is directing it from the script by Deko Akao. Hiroshi Watanabe is handling the character designs with Mari Tominaga and Ashi Production on the animation.
The original series was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and based on the series composition by Takeshi Shudo. Based on the original work by Shudo, Ayumi Hattori and Toyoo Ashida worked on the character designs with Ashi Productions and Studio Live working on the animation.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Mami Koyama as Minky Momo
Plot Concept: Momo is a little girl who lives with her parents. She is from the land of dreams, sent to earth to not lose their dreams. Momo and her parents own and run a hotel. Momo lives in Fenarinarsa, which is now near Earth’s space, to help people who have lost their dreams. She uses her ability to change herself or something into various things.
