The Powers Art Center will open a new exhibition this summer celebrating one of the most recognizable artists of the Pop Art movement.
“Roy Lichtenstein: Beyond Reality” opens June 2 and runs through May 1, 2027. The exhibition will feature a broad range of Lichtenstein’s bold, comic book-inspired imagery, signature Ben-Day dots and vibrant style.
“I wanted to dedicate an entire exhibition to Lichtenstein,” Powers Art Center Museum Director and Exhibition Curator Sonya Taylor Moore said in a news release. “The size and scope of works in this show are spectacular, and I’m excited for visitors to experience his work in a new way.”
Alongside other household names such as Andy Warhol, Lichtenstein helped define American Pop Art in the 1960s by transforming comic strips and commercial printing into fine art. The exhibition is presented in honor of the late artist and will include works ranging from emotionally charged comic-inspired figures to landscapes and reinterpretations of classical subjects.
“Beyond Reality invites visitors to experience the artist’s work beyond its familiar surface, exploring how he used repetition, scale, color, and visual illusion to challenge the way people see everyday images,” according to the release.
The Powers Art Center will host an opening reception for the exhibition June 18, 2026, with a night “inspired by the bold imagination and enduring influence of Roy Lichtenstein.”
Attendees are asked to RSVP on the Powers Art Center website.
