Last Thursday, the Boston Public Library announced it will host a Library Card Design Contest, which will run from May 15-June 15 ahead of Library Card Sign-Up Month this September. Three winners — one adult, one teen, and one youth — will have their artwork displayed on a series of limited edition BPL library cards, which will circulate throughout the year.

The Huntington to host Laura Benanti solo show
Laura Benanti’s one-woman comedy show “Nobody Cares” is coming to The Huntington this fall. The show, which will be part of the Huntington Selects program and staged at the Calderwood Pavilion, will run Oct. 22-25. It’s directed by Annie Tippe. In the production, the Tony Award-winning actress opens up about motherhood, aging, and her people-pleasing tendencies, while singing original comedy songs by Todd Almond.
“This is not a play. This has original comedy songs … but it really is just a conversation between me and the audience. It’s most akin to standup comedy. I want this to feel like a warm blanket. Just 62 minutes where I get to make you laugh,” Benanti said in a press release. – Gitana Savage
“Survivor” contestant Charlie Davis checks into “The White Lotus”
Aubry Bracco wasn’t the only New Englander who won big on Wednesday’s episode of “Survivor.”
During the live season 50 finale, “The White Lotus” creator and “Survivor” contestant Mike White revealed Manchester-by-the-Sea native Charlie Davis would have one of the coveted cameos in season 4 of the hit show. Davis will be joined by fellow “Survivor 50″ contestant Kamilla Karthigesu, continuing White’s longstanding tradition of featuring former “Survivor” players in “The White Lotus.”
White, who originally competed in 2018 on “Survivor: David vs. Goliath,” returned to “Survivor” for a second time this year for the show’s milestone 50th season. White has previously given cameos to six former contestants from his first season of the game, including Christian Hubicki and Angelina Keeley, who competed alongside White again in season 50. – Gitana Savage
Huey Lewis makes a cameo in Weston school musical
Mike Scafati, a teacher and theater director at the Meadowbrook School in Weston, turned his lifelong love for Huey Lewis into a project for his students, one that ultimately ended up featuring a cameo from the singer himself.
In 2024, Scafati saw Lewis’s jukebox musical, “The Heart of Rock and Roll,” on Broadway.
After the show, he thought “That would be my opus, to get to do Huey’s musical someday,” Scafati said.
This year, he made that dream a reality. On Thursday, Meadowbrook students performed the first school adaptation of the production.
Ahead of the performance, Lewis met with the class over Zoom to answer students’ questions about songwriting, theater, and more. During this meeting, he recorded a voice-over role, of the protagonist’s father, that is featured in the show.
“It’s just this really fun Easter egg,” Scafati said. – Annie Sarlin
